The Whitmore Legacy – (3.17)

We’re coming back to the legacy today with two teenagers and more to catch up on! Something I forgot to show in the last chapter was Poe’s new room, which I had to update a little bit now he was a teen. I leaned into a darker blue theme, and I decided he was going to be this generation’s painter for the time being. Of course, he also got a computer of his very own, too. I’ve tried to make it a bit more of a teen’s room, but I had to keep the sheep stool. It’s too cute to go in ‘the attic’.

However, it’s not the only room to appear, as I’ve got the dragon fruit room set up next to the pool now, waiting for harvested dragon fruits to be planted. It’ll be a good source of income once they’re all grown, but I’m thankful that the ghosts help us take care of weeds.

As soon as we had some dragon fruits, I sent Hermes down to start planting them up. Hopefully, they’ll grow quickly and I’ll be able to take care of all the plants in the household now that we have three rooms destined to be full of them…

As for the pool, it’s the perfect respite for our resident mermaids after a long day! You can really see how much Ami and Lori are alike in this screenshot, and I just thought it was a really nice moment to have captured.

As for Poe, he finished the project he was working on…

And I discovered that Hermes can actually mentor Poe, given that Hermes has maxed out the painting skill! So, I had him give Poe some tips while he worked on a painting. After all, the quicker Poe can build this skill, the better.

Meanwhile, Lori and Owen were hanging out in the kitchen.

Owen: Mom, when will I get my tail? It’s not fair that Ami gets hers and I don’t have mine.

Lori: You’ll grow into it, don’t you worry. Besides, the hydration can be a real problem sometimes…

Owen: But I want to be a mermaid now!

Also, like I said, Noelle has been helping out with the weeds, which has been very helpful. I think this also means that when plants appear in inventory, it’s because ghosts are harvesting them for you – if you’ve ever experienced that, please let me know!

Lori was also working on her skills. Robotics is actually harder to build than most, but she’s been working hard due to her job. As always, it runs the risk of being zapped, but she’s working hard for her family.

Owen’s also building his skills, as he seems very drawn to cross stitch, so it looks like all three kids are creative in different ways. I almost wish that one of them would have picked up something a bit computer based, like Lori, but maybe that’s for the future.

Going back to Poe, his parents decided it was time for the conversation. Yes, Lori is smoking slightly from being zapped, but that’s neither here nor there.

Hermes: Poe, your mother and I want to talk to you about the legacy. After all, we feel you’re old enough now to understand more about it, and as a potential heir, you’ll need to understand what the heir’s responsibilities are.

Poe: I mean…you continue the family name and reputation, right?

Lori: It’s a little more complicated than that. Of course, you find yourself a good partner and carry things on, but any heir has to be willing to put in effort to make things better for the next generation, not just produce them. Your father’s project in the basement, training you in painting, the house being more built up, the fortune being taken care of….all of these are things an heir must do. Behind each of those is hard work. Learning how to garden, how to paint himself, earning the money. All of it takes time and effort, and if you’re chosen, that same effort is expected of you.

Hermes: Your mother is right, of course, but…there’s much she’s done as well. She works hard every day for our family, and she’s aiming for a promotion. A supportive partner who you can give to in return is something you should look to if you become heir, and even if you don’t. As for if you don’t…well, your aunts and uncle and your mother as well, all of them were heir candidates.

Poe: So…

Hermes: So, even if you aren’t the heir, you can make your way in life. You’ll always be part of this legacy, and we’ll be proud of you no matter what. You’re our son, and we love you.

Poe: Er, thanks. I mean it.

An air of awkwardness to that conversation. I guess there’s always some pressure when your parents have a serious talk with you like that.

As for now, I hope you enjoyed this episode of the Whitmore Legacy, and maybe you’re also feeling the bittersweet nature of time moving forward. I swear these kids were just babies yesterday. Anyway, I’ll catch you next time!
